11Imam Reza shrine (Persian: حرم امام رضا) in Mashhad, Iran is a complex which contains the mausoleum of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Twelve Shi'.

Also contained within the complex include: the Goharshad Mosque, a museum, a library, four seminaries, a cemetery, the Razavi University of Islamic Sciences, a dining hall for pilgrims, vast prayer halls, and other buildings.

This complex is the center of tourism in Iran, visited by 15 to 20 million pilgrims every year. The shrine itself covers an area of 267,079m2 while the seven courtyards which surround it cover an area of 331,578m2 - totaling 598,657 m2 (6,443,890 sq ft).

In 818 Imam Reza was martyred by Al-Ma'mun and was buried beside the grave of Harun. After this event this place was called as Mashhad al-Reza (the place of martyrdom of Ali al-Reza).

Addressing Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him), Prophet Muhammad (Blessings of God Upon Him and His Progeny) said: “O Ali, he who goes on pilgrimage to me or one of my descendents, will be visited by me on the Day of Judgment and will be saved by me from the fear of the Day of Judgment.”‌ (Thavab ul A’maal, p. 242, Kamil ul Ziyaraat, p. 41, Bihar ul Anwar, vol. 100, p. 123)

The holy shrine of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (A.S) along with the sacred tombs of Hazrat Imamzadeh Hamzeh ibn Imam Musa al-Kazim (A.S) and Imamzadeh Taher ibn Imam Ali ibn Hussein (A.S) in Ray city has been one of the most famous sacred places and tourist attractions in Iran. Millions of the lovers of the Holy Ahl-ul-Bayt (house hold of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) from all parts of the world every year visit this holy shrine.
